Three Months of Therapy in Three Days

The Couples Intensive
For couples who feel stuck, and don't want to spend a year getting there. Assessment, three days of focused work, and a clear sense of what is working.

3 Days in Person      Steubenville, OH or Tallahassee, FL      From $2,500

Does any of this sound familiar?

"You don't listen. No matter how hard I try, I can't get through to you."

"All I hear is what I am doing wrong."

"It is all on me. I have to take care of everything by myself."

"I never get it right. I am never enough."

"I don't feel like I matter to you."

"I'm damned if I do and damned if I don't."

"It feels like we are roommates."

These are not two problems
They are one pattern, said from two seats

Healing does n0t take time, it takes focus

Weekly therapy works, and for many couples it is the right place to start.

But when you are stuck, weekly can feel like filling a bucket with a hole in the bottom -- you gain ground in session only for the week in-between sessions to drain it out before you come back. The intensive closes that gap. Three consecutive days, no re-entry, no starting over each time.

Intensive

Three Days, in order

Day 1 - The X-Ray

Like an x-ray before setting the bone, we begin with assessment to find where the pattern locks and why the repair hasn't held, so by Day 2 we know exactly where to work. Most couples leave day one feeling clearer than they arrived.

Day 2 - The Work

The longest day, and the one that changes things. As the pain stabilizes, we go deeper to what has fueled the blocks between you.

Day 3 - Making it Hold

We consolidate what shifted and name what you'll each be practicing. By Day 3, most couples describe feeling:

Relieved    Comforted    Encouraged     Hopeful

Typical weekdays are from 9:30 - 2:30, with day 3 ending around midday. Exact hours may vary upon request.

The Intensive is especially helpful for the following couples:

Highly Motivated

In Crisis

Short on Time

Stalled in Therapy

You are both ready. The intensive turns that into traction quickly instead of across a year.

Something has just broken open and waiting weeks between sessions is not tolerable

The same hour every week does not fit your life. Blocking out three days does.

Traction has slowed and it is hard to say why. Three days is enough to find the block.

When an intensive is not well timed:

Intensives are not recommended when there is:

• Intimate partner violence or abuse - (more information on intimate partner violence)
• Active, denied addiction(s)
• Ongoing affair(s)
• Conflicting goals (One of you wants to make it work, the other does not)

If any one of these is current in your relationship, an intensive usually is not the place to start. Tell me anyway - the consultation is where we can brainstorm supports that meet your needs and goals.

If you already have a therapist

Couples who do an intensive with me often have another therapist they work with regularly, with many arriving at their therapist's recommendation.

I will ask permission to coordinate, send a summary of what we worked on, and hand the thread back so the work continues where it started. The intensive is a tool your therapist can use, not a replacement for them.

Frequently asked questions

All intensive consultations are done virtually.

During the consultation, I'll ask questions focused on what is bringing you in and how I can help, as well as sharing my approach and answer questions you have. If the intensive feels like a good mutual fit, we will talk scheduling.

While the intensive is a one time service, I want my couples to experience a lifetime of love and relief. For this reason, ongoing treatment is recommended to all couples to support long-term results.

  • For couples interested in seeking continued support I will help connect you with a therapist in your area or discussed continuing treatment with me.

  • For couples who were working with a therapist prior to the intensive, I ask you sign a release of information so I may connect with your local therapist before and after the intensive to best support your hard work and ongoing traction.
